In 1627, he was adrift on his way to Japan from the Netherlands and landed on Jeju Island.

Joseon had a policy of returning drifters to their homeland through Ming of China or Japan.

At that time, however, the situation was not good, with Ming fighting with Qing.

Therefore, he was sent to Japan, but Japan rejected him because he was a Christian.

At that time, Japan had a policy to reject Christianity.

Then Joseon gave up his repatriation. Eventually,

he became a soldier in Joseon and became naturalized by making and dealing with cannons.

He is said to have adapted to life in Joseon and met his wife and had a daughter and a son.

In the winter of December 1636, a great war broke out in Joseon.

The emperor of Qing of China led 120,000 troops to attack Joseon.

He fought with Qing soldiers to protect his beloved wife and Joseon.

The war at that time was a battle of slaughter, cutting the skin with a knife and skewing a man with a bow.

He survived this war, but two Dutch colleagues who came with him died.

He was very sad and comforted by his wife and children.

He interpreted Hamel, a Dutchman who wrote Hamel Drifter, when he drifted to Joseon.

Hamel asked him to escape Joseon with him but he refused,

saying he could not leave his wife and children and run away.

However, on the day he returned home from seeing Hamel,

his sleeves were wet with longing for his hometown.

Later, Hamel escaped from Joseon and returned to his homeland of the Netherlands,

where he wrote a book called The Journal of Hendrick Hamel.

The Journal of Hendrick Hamel made Weltevree's story known to the world.

His story is being performed in a musical called "Blue-eyed Park Yeon."

He was the progenitor of the Park Clan in Wonsan,

Korea, and his friend who came with him became the progenitor of the Byeongyeong Nam Clan.

Korea gave a new family name to foreigners

who had been naturalized and made it the founder of the family name.

If you are naturalized in Korea, why don't you make your own last name?
